Force your mouth muscles to work harder by holding a pen horizontally between your teeth while reading aloud.
- 1Hold a pen or pencil lightly between your upper and lower teeth — not biting down hard, just enough to keep it in place.
- 2Now read a passage or recite tongue twisters aloud. Your lips, tongue, and jaw must compensate significantly to produce intelligible speech.
- 3After 5–10 minutes, remove the pen and speak again. Your articulation will feel noticeably crisper and more effortful.
- 4This works because the restriction forces your articulators to over-produce each sound, building muscle memory for clearer pronunciation.
- 5Practice 5 minutes daily for 2 weeks to see a lasting improvement in clarity and diction.
